The Driver and vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) was established by Act 569 of 1999 to replace the erstwhile Vehicle Examination and Licensing Division (VELD) of the then Ministry of Roads and Transport.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority is responsible for setting and maintaining standards for driving as well as ensuring that roadworthy vehicles ply our roads and other public places.
